Previous Distro Wallpapers

A few years ago, I went through a phase where I wanted to make wallpapers for various Linux distributions. This was in a time when everyone's monitors
were formatted to a 4:3 ratio and things like United Linux still seemed like a good idea. There are other websites out there that still post these
wallpapers without giving me attribution (a violation of the GPL they were released under),
but not a real stressor for me anyway.
Since other sites are still posting these wallpapers, obviously there is still some sort of demand for
them. So without any further discussion, here they are (please click on the preview images to get the full wallpaper):
MEPIS
Mepis is a very cool distro maintained primarily by Warren Woodford. It used to be
based on Debian repositories but has transitioned to Ubuntu repositories. Back when I made this wallpaper the Mepis logo was an ambiguous looking
circle behind two triangles. I decided the image of the sun rising on Mepis was a good concept and iterpreted it that way. Later, as the Mepis logo
matured, it became more obvious that the logo was two pyramids in front of a full moon, which makes sense when you look up the mythology that Warren
created about his distro.
All that said, I still think this is my coolest distro specific wallpaper to date. I hope all those Mepis users out
there like my wallpaper.
PCLINUXOS
PCLinuxOS is a very cool
distro based originally off of Mandrake Mandriva Linux but with some nice customizations of their own. When I made this wallpaper PCLinuxOS did
not have any sort of logo so I was free to make this distro wallpaper look however I wanted. At the time, this distro defaulted to KDE and used
Everaldo's crystal icon theme. In the spirit of bling, I made this wallpaper to match those ideas.
Since then a lot has changed, but there are
still those that like to use KDE with plenty of bling power and this wallpaper certainly matches that concept.
SLACKWARE
As we look at these next three wallpapers,
please cut me some slack (joke intended) and remember that I made these when the marble icons were all the rave.
Slackware is the oldest popular Linux distribution and also has the coolest name thanks to its creator Patrick Volkerding. Just typing
its name makes me want to go dig out an old pair of Spock ears to put on (if you don't get the reference, then you're probably newer to Linux, so
please allow me to humbly welcome you to Linux and let me warn you that many of the old-school Linux fan boys can be a little peculiar).
This
wallpaper, while being cool looking, definitely looks dated on today's high resolution monitors, but maybe you still like it, so here it is.
REDHAT
Before there was Fedora, there was Red Hat. While Red Hat is certainly still around, their desktop OS is now called Fedora. Red Hat's desktop OS was
the first version of Linux that I ever installed and used. In fact, I was so frustrated with my PC that I didn't even try to partition my hard drive;
I just over wrote the whole thing and never looked back.
SUSE
In the not so distant past SuSE, Caldera, Conectiva,
and Turbolinux decided to work together to create a SUPER DISTRO under the banner of United Linux. As SuSE told one audience at a Linux conference,
they felt the market was only big enough for two Linux distributions to which one journalist asked, "Debian and who else?"
Well, United Linux
never quite worked out, but I was asked to make a wallpaper and that was the result.
By the way, SuSE is no longer spelled with a lower case
"u" and is now spelled SUSE. Novell also changed the pronunciation but I don't need to worry about that in a typed document.
