Tonight I offer my opinion on why MS Windows isn’t ready for the desktop, interview Ilan Rabinovitch about the Southern California Linux Expo, offer a tip for fishing with Konqueror, discuss an article written by RMS, poke holes in some recent Microsoft FUD and more.

A few brief anouncements, first I’ld like to thank a new volunteer here at TLB, Colin Wilson, whom has taken over the polls for me and is also functioning as a journalist here by posting articles. Next time you see him post an article you really like, please take a moment to post a comment thanking him.

I would also like to thank everyone over at The Linux Link Tech Show. Linc Fenesden and Dann Washko have both exchanged a few emails with me and have been very helpful in helping me to establish this new show. They’ve recently added this show to the Linux stream ( http://thelinuxlink.net:8000 )that they run, which is Linux tech shows 24 hours a day and currently consists of the Linux Link Tech Show, LUG Radio, and The Linux Box Show.

For those that want to browse all the latest linux tech news on their cell phone, I’ve added a mobile accessible page, which may also be useful for those with slow connections that wish to avaoid the graphic intensive homepage that the linux box uses.

Let me know if your embedded browser has a hard time utilizing the new mobile page, and please include as much information as possible (browser and browser version along with any other data you collect).

Check out the new mobile page at http://thelinuxbox.org/mobile.php (this is no longer necessary, as this is now handled with CSS)

Now for the less exciting announcement, I’ve also created a new logo for TLBS. To try and help cover some of my expenses, I’ve added some shirts and a coffee mug with this new logo to my cafepress shop, so if you’re looking for some cool new geek swag then please check it out.

One last announcement, The Linux Box has started The Linux Box Marketing Project –Now Inactive to try and work with white box retailers to make it easier for them to sell boxes with Linux preinstalled. I’ll discuss this in much greater depth in a couple weeks, but please check it out and let me know what you think so far.

This is the second episode of The Linux Box Show, so I would really appreciate your input so that I can better service the FOSS community.

A couple of brief announcements, I’ve added a podcast for the show. Now I’m not interested in purchasing an iPod due to its proprietary nature, so others will have to keep me updated in case there is a problem with the podcast. I’m more likely to try and build my own MP3 player as outlined by an article titled Minty MP3, which appeared on one of MIT’s servers. It’s a pretty cool article that tells you how to make an MP3 player for about 50 bucks, and the case is made out of a box of Altoids.

Also, I’ve added Google Ads to my site to try and cover some of my expenses. With Google Ads, I can’t pick whom my sponsors are, but if you find any ads that seem inapropriate, please send me the URL and I can ban it from my site.
